About the SWBDTA  Training Program

The Southwest Ballroom Dance Teachers Academy offers the first opportunity in the
Southwest for comprehensive vocational teacher training for ballroom dance instructors.
Our program is ideal for adults who are considering a career as dance teachers, or who
would like to dramatically improve their own dancing. The 12-month program is made up of
four quarters lasting approximately 3 months each.

Each quarter is instructed through a series of 3-day weekend sessions (5 hours on Friday; 6
hours on Saturday, and 5 hours on Sunday). This schedule, though demanding, allows those
with full time jobs to pursue this program while maintaining their current employment.
Additional optional sessions are scheduled for those interested in practice sessions and
preparation for DVIDA certification.

Lead instructor Chad Lakridis and his associates provide comprehensive instruction in
  • The 17 dances of the DVIDA Bronze American Syllabus for Smooth, Rhythm, and Night
    Club dances
  • How to dance and how to teach others to dance as both Leader
    & Follower
  • Technical elements of all the dances
  • Musical elements of all the dances
  • How to teach private & group lessons
  • How to prepare for DVIDA certification

In addition, the Southwest Ballroom Dance Teachers Academy
includes these unique extra features:
  • Special training sessions by top, nationally ranked dance
    professionals, and masters of movement
  • Special training sessions on career, business, and self-development
  • Opportunities for applied training through assisting at dance workshops and events

We invite you to be part of the rising standard of professionalism and excellence in
the dance industry.
